1. Who we are
Hivee is a beekeeping app built and operated by Hivee LLC ("Hivee", "we", "us"), part of AmpedApps based in Cornelia, Georgia, USA. This policy explains what we collect when you use the Hivee mobile apps and the Hivee web app at app-hivee.web.app, why we collect it, and what control you have over it.
Questions about anything here go to [email protected].
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your name, email address, and password (stored hashed, never in plain text). If you sign in through Apple or Google, we receive the identifier and email that service passes to us.
- Your beekeeping records — apiaries, hives, inspections, treatments, mite counts, requeenings, feeding, equipment, harvests, yields and any notes you write.
- Photos — images you attach to an inspection or send to Ask Hivee.
- Community posts — anything you publish in The Hive feed, including your display name.
- Support messages — what you send us by email or in-app.
Information collected automatically
- Device and app data — device model, operating system version, app version, language, and time zone.
- Diagnostics — crash reports and performance data so we can fix what breaks.
- Usage — which screens and features are used, so we know what to improve.
- Location — only if you enable the yard nudge or attach a location to an apiary. Hivee uses it to recognise when you have arrived at your own apiary. You can turn this off in your device settings at any time and the rest of the app keeps working.
Information from others
- Purchase status — Apple and Google tell us whether your subscription is active. They never send us your card number.
- Weather — we request conditions for the area around your apiary from a weather provider so inspection guidance reflects the day.
- Club membership — if an association gives you a seat, that club's administrator knows the seat is assigned to you.
3. How we use it
- Run the app: store your records, sync them across your devices, and show them back to you.
- Answer Ask Hivee questions using your own hives and history for context.
- Send reminders when a hive is overdue and nudges when you arrive at the yard.
- Produce your reports, weekly rundown and season recap.
- Back up your photos and records so a lost phone doesn't cost you a season.
- Keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and diagnose problems.
- Reply to support requests.
- Send service emails about your account or subscription. Marketing email is separate and only goes to people who opt in — every one of those has an unsubscribe link.
Where the law requires a legal basis, ours is: performing our contract with you (running the app you signed up for), our legitimate interests (security, improving the product), your consent (location, marketing email), and legal obligation where one applies.
4. Ask Hivee and AI processing
Ask Hivee sends your question — and, when you use photo diagnosis, the image — to an AI model provider so it can be answered. Relevant context from your own hives and inspections goes with it so the answer is about your bees rather than bees in general.
- We use Anthropic (Claude) as our model provider.
- Your questions and photos are processed to produce your answer and are not used by us to build advertising profiles.
- CONFIRM TRAINING TERMS — confirm with your provider whether submitted content is excluded from training their models, and state the answer here plainly.
- Ask Hivee is guidance, not a veterinary or regulatory opinion. Judgment about your colonies stays yours.
5. What we never do
- No ads. There are none in Hivee and there will not be.
- We do not sell your hive data. Not to input suppliers, not to researchers, not to anyone.
- We do not share your records with other beekeepers unless you post them yourself in The Hive.
- We do not require hardware, so there is no sensor telemetry leaving your yard.
Hivee makes money from subscriptions and nothing else. That is the only arrangement where our interests and yours stay pointed the same direction.
6. When we share information
We share only in these situations:
- Service providers who run parts of the service for us — cloud hosting and storage, crash reporting, email delivery, the AI provider above, and payment processing for club invoices. They may only use the data to provide that service to us.
- App stores — Apple and Google handle your subscription and tell us its status.
- Club administrators — if you hold a club seat, the administrator can see that the seat is assigned to you and can reclaim it. They cannot see your hives, inspections or records.
- Legal — if we are required by law, or need to protect someone's safety or our rights.
- A change of ownership — if Hivee is acquired, your data moves with the service under this same policy until you are told otherwise.
7. Storage, security and where data lives
Your records and photos are stored on Google Firebase infrastructure in the United States. Data is encrypted in transit, and at rest by the storage provider. Passwords are hashed. Access inside our team is limited to the people who need it to run and support the service.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever affects your data, we will tell you and the relevant regulator within the time the law requires.
8. How long we keep it
- While your account is open, we keep your records — that is the point of the product. On the free plan, earlier seasons stay in your account and come back the moment you upgrade; nothing is deleted for being outside the free window.
- If you delete your account, we delete your records and photos within 30 days, except anything we must keep for tax, accounting or legal reasons.
- Backups roll off within 30 days of deletion.
- Diagnostics are kept in aggregated form and are not tied back to you after 30 days.
9. Your choices and your rights
- Access and export — export your records as CSV or PDF from the app on paid plans; email us and we will produce an export on any plan.
- Correction — edit any record directly in the app.
- Deletion — delete individual records, or delete your whole account from account settings.
- Location — revoke the permission in your device settings any time.
- Notifications — turn reminders off in the app or in device settings.
- Marketing email — unsubscribe from any marketing message.
Depending on where you live you may also have the right to object to or restrict processing, to data portability, and to complain to your data protection authority. California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA/CPRA, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. To exercise any right, email [email protected] and we will respond within the time the law allows.
10. Children
Hivee is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will remove it. Beekeeping is a family activity — a parent or guardian should hold the account and supervise its use.
11. International users
Hivee is operated from the United States and your information is stored and processed there. If you are in the EEA, the UK or another region with data transfer rules, using Hivee means your data is transferred to the United States under the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that materially affects you, we will tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect, and update the date at the top. Continuing to use Hivee after that means the new version applies.
13. Contact us
